How Monitoring Systems Minimise Security Risks in Your Business

It’s no surprise that many security incidents happen out of hours or during periods of closure (bank holidays, seasonal closures etc.), as the general assumption is that vacant buildings are more accessible and therefore more vulnerable to threat. There may also be an assumption that monitoring out of hours is less reactive.

When your place of business is invaded by unauthorised individuals, there can be serious, and at times catastrophic impact to your operations. Beyond initial damage, sensitive data, intellectual property, and equipment are all at risk of being stolen, damaged or destroyed. These, of course, are only a few considerations worth making, with the potential for disruption to your business being notably high.

So, what can you do to alleviate these challenges?

Security measures in the form of CCTV, fencing and guarding are all extremely important to consider, but what can often be forgotten is the need for 24/7 monitoring. This is what allows for rapid response to minimise the risk to your business.

With round the clock monitoring in place 365 days a year, there is less pressure to gear up for seasonal closures and add in increased security for short periods of time. In fact, there are many statistics to show that while there are seasonal patterns and trends in property invasion, intruders are opportunists, and when a property appears in any way vulnerable at any time, it can become a target, regardless of the time of year.

Did you know?

Invasion rates are similar in urban and rural settings, so while being situated in a busy, high traffic area may seem safer, it is not always the case. Likewise, a more isolated setting, that seems out of harm’s way, may just be the perfect target for intruders. Which is all to say, every business risks becoming vulnerable at some point or another, meaning preventative measures are the key to minimising this.

How does rapid response work?

For rapid response to be possible, we must first consider what type of monitoring is needed.

Remote monitoring allows you to survey the premises at all times, from a point in the building to your home office and allows for a constant, real-time view on the property, people and assets.

24/7 alarm monitoring is an outsourced approach, providing surveillance of fire alarms, intruders, and environmental sensors. With this, we monitor the premises 24/7 and alert emergency services to any threats to your property.

Video surveillance monitoring, like alarm monitoring, follows the same processes, in terms of communicating with emergency services, yet is detected by video rather than alarms. Our highly experienced team will monitor your cameras day and night, to detect intruders, fire or any other cause for concern, such as flooding.

Environmental monitoring provides extra detection where cameras may not pick up on warning signs. These highly sensitive detectors detect hazards such as fire, smoke, carbon monoxide or water. Rapid response means damage/and or danger is minimised.

Having these measures in place mean you have peace of mind regarding security, and the safety of your people, property and assets. While these measures are an expense, the cost of not having them can often be greater.
