Atexa is a growing business; in the past 18 months, we have tripled our headcount, which is a testament to the service we provide to our clients. While this fantastic growth is very welcome, it comes with its challenges; finding good people is always challenging, even when we’re only trying to add one or two over an extended period. Filling multiple positions is difficult, especially because we are more selective than many other businesses.
We are an independent, owner-managed business. Culture is essential to us, so we hire primarily based on attitude as well as relevant qualifications or experience. Yes, qualifications and experience are important, however equally and if not more important is correct attitude. In our experience, we can develop people in the skills they need if they are willing to learn and have a ‘can do’ attitude. Conversely, experience has shown us that well-qualified people with the wrong attitude are counterproductive to our business.
At Atexa, we have created almost a family-type environment; indeed, we have multiple family members who are working at Atexa. But, even though we are not strictly speaking a family business, we work as a team and help one another to be the best we can be and to do the best we can for our customers.
We are fortunate to have many well-qualified people at Atexa; firstly, because we are busy and need their experience to continue to offer expert advice and a first-class service to our clients. But secondly because it enables us to bring in new people and train them to the standard we, and you, require. These people are hired because they fit our ethos; they want to work, they are keen to learn and they wish to be part of a great team.
Maintaining this culture will always be one of our primary objectives. We are proud of our company, passionate about what we do, and care about our clients. We are acutely aware that our services protect properties and people; therefore, we will always employ people who care about the things we care about, which are expert advice, excellent service, attention to detail, and teamwork.
Our growth is not about luck or clever marketing; it’s about having the right people doing the right thing. Whether they are new start trainees or long-experienced engineers, they all work towards a common goal—to always do the best they possibly can!
